What is SmartLipo?

SmartLipo is an advanced medical device that removes excess body fat through a procedure called laser-assisted lipolysis. The SmartLipo system precisely eliminates fat from problem areas in your face, neck, arms, legs, abdomen, and buttocks.

How does SmartLipo work?

After Dr. Zarcone administers a local anesthetic and makes a small incision, he inserts a narrow tube called a cannula into the targeted area of fat. The tube contains a laser fiber that raises the temperature of the surrounding fat cells just enough to break them down, a process that’s called lipolysis. After the fat cells melt, Dr. Zarcone suctions them out of your body.

Dr. Zarcone methodically moves the cannula through the pocket of fat, allowing the laser to reach all the cells. Throughout your procedure, special technology built into the SmartLipo device regulates and maintains the proper temperature.

The SmartLipo can emit three different wavelengths, giving Dr. Zarcone the ability to customize your treatment based on the depth and amount of fat. This versatility also allows the laser to stimulate collagen production in your skin while eliminating fat. As a result, your skin tightens, its elasticity improves, and you don’t have to worry about loose skin.

What should I expect during and after the procedure?

Your SmartLipo treatment takes about 1-2 hours, depending on the total amount of fat you want to remove. You’ll stay comfortable during the procedure, thanks to the local anesthesia. However, you may feel sensations similar to pressure or tugging during your treatment session.

You may have slight bruising and swelling after the procedure. Dr. Zarcone asks you to wear a compression garment for about a week to support the treated area. Otherwise, you can get back to your regular activities in a day or two.
